What does a thumbprint cookie taste like?
Thumbprint cookies, also known as “Hallongrotta” in Swedish which directly translate to ” Raspberry cave”. It is a popular dessert all around the world that was created back in the 19th century in Sweden.
Thumbprint cookies are made with the same ingredients as a sugar cookie, therefore the texture and flavor of it might resemble the classic sugar cookie. However since there are jam fillings in the middle, it adds extra flavor and a refreshing taste to the cookie.
Materials/Ingredients needed
Preparation Process
Start by combining together room-temperature butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and egg in a bowl
sift the almond flour and then combine everything together with matcha powder
take about 1.5 tbsp portion of the dough and roll them into balls
using your index finger press diagonally in the middle of the cookie to form a heart, fill it with any jam of your choice, and then bake for 350 for about 15 minutes
Tips for Storing
- Once the cookie comes out of the oven, let it cool for 30 minutes to 1 hour
- Store them in a close lid container or a Ziploc bag
- Avoid keeping cookies in moist areas instead store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks!

These strawberry matcha heart-shaped thumbprint cookies are aesthetically pleasing and super easy to make! The best part of all, it is made with almond flour therefore; GLUTEN FREE!!
Ingredients
- 1 stick of butter (115g)
- 1/2cup of granulated sugar (100g)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- 1 1/2 cup almond flour (180g)
- 2 tsp matcha powder
- 1/4 cup jam of your choice (80g)
- 1 egg
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350F
- In a bowl, add in butter and granulated sugar, and whisk them together until they are well combined
- Pour in vanilla extract, and egg then mix again
- Using a sifter, sift in matcha powder and almond flour
- Combine all the ingredients together until your cookie dough form
- Roll each cookie into 15g balls
- Use your thumbs and press diagonally in the middle of the cookie and then the opposite around to make a heart shape
- Fill the dent of the cookie with the jam of your choice
- Bake for around 15-20 minutes
- Enjoy!!
